Day Camp 2011 – Week 6: Wacky Science!

Posted by: knoxcamp on: August 22, 2011

What happens when you mix Knox Camps + Week 6 + loads of fun? You get WACKY SCIENCE! But how much fun did Knox Camps have? According to Dr What? ‘s scientific invention for the Wacky Science Funporium, his Fun-o-meter read the fun levels to be exponentially high. However, another mad scientist was testing his invention out also: Dr Oh-No-You-Didn’t and his Misery-o-meter. Dr Oh-No-You-Didn’t wanted to sabotage all the fun games and activities to give power to his Misery-o-meter.

In an unexpected plot twist of a Dr Jekyll/Mr Hyde story, Dr What? was actually the same person as Dr Oh-No-You-Didn’t, due to a chemical miscalculation in his new potion he had invented. The campers had to find the antidote ingredients before Dr What? was permanently Dr Oh-No-You-Didn’t. Though a struggle at first, the campers successfully retrieved the ingredients and turned him back to Dr What? As a reward, the Wacky Science Funporium was able to happen, where there was a dunk tank, face paint, bingo, water balloon toss, and lots and lots of candy!

In the Bible Study skits, Ms Mary Sunshine and her classroom of 4 were taught in a style similar to the Magic School Bus but with a twist of going on field trips to the past (however, leaving Ted behind almost every time). Ms Mary Sunshine, April Showers, May Flowers, and UV Index 5 learned about Jesus’s sermons on the mount about being the salt and light of the earth; loving your enemies; the parable of the seed planted in good soil; and the sending out of the disciples with 2 Corinthians 4:6 tying in perfectly with the message of God creating amazing things for us including Jesus.

Wacky Science + day trip = Ontario Science Centre. Campers got to learn some fascinating things about science through interactive games and displays.

We are blessed to have had a great summer this year with lots of fun memories. New friendships were made as well as the reconnecting of old ones. Knox Camps would like to thank every single person who supported us whether through prayers, finances, acts of service, or other helpful means. We hope everyone has a great rest of the summer and a wonderful school year, and we hope to see everyone at Overnight Camp (August 28th to September 3rd) or at next summer’s day camp. See you all later!!

Day Camp Week 5: Let’s Play!

Posted by: knoxcamp on: August 22, 2011

Who would have thought that Family Games Night would be full of adventure when the important game pieces to the classic board-games were stolen by a jealous Candyland character, the Duke of Swirl! The ladders and space 100 from Snakes and Ladders; all the properties and Mr Monopoly himself from Monopoly; and the letters “S” from Chess, were all stolen, so that families on Family Games Night could only play Candyland FOREVER, even though the recommended age for play is 3 years or older. Although the campers were successful in completing some tasks to get back the game pieces, they were still missing some of the vital pieces. So in order to save Family Games Night, the Family Games Knight came to the rescue by dueling the Duke of Swirl and retrieving back the stolen pieces. Now everyone  can have their fun Family Games Nights again!

Knox Camps followed the dilemmas of Normal Norman, as Truthful Tammy and Lying Larry persuaded him to follow their advice.  Lying Larry gave terrible advice however, Truthful Tammy offered great advice to Normal Norman by providing examples of what Jesus did: Jesus saves a women from being killed; Jesus talks to Martha, and what kind of people Jesus likes to bless. Everyday Normal Norman decided to do what Truthful Tammy told him, and he was able to resolve his conflicts. Forgiveness was the theme of the memory verse, as they learned Colossians 3: 13-14 to the tune of “It’s a Small World.”

This week, Knox Camps went to the beach! The sun was shining, and the waves were crashing. Campers were super eager to jump into the water and tackle the coming waves.

Overall, it was a short but fun time at Knox Camps.

Day Camp Week 4: Christmasville

Posted by: knoxcamp on: August 22, 2011

Merry Christmas…in July! What a wonderful holiday we got to celebrate in the summer. Everything was decorated so festivally and everyone was in the Christmas mood, except one fellow: Scrooge. He hated everything about Christmas from the decorations and the gift giving to the Christmas carolling and the snow. But he didn’t know the TRUE MEANING of Christmas! So, Knox Camp decided to help him find the true meaning with the assistance of Frosty the Snow(wo)man and Mrs. Clause. In the end, Scrooge found out the TRUE MEANING of Christmas, and he didn’t feel so miserable after all.

What better way to celebrate Christmas than to actually learn about JESUS, starting from when and why He was born, to His teachings throughout His time on earth! What a great way to learn about the TRUE MEANING of Christmas! All the campers enjoyed learning and memorizing the memory verse for the week which was from Luke 2:10-12.

Knox Camps went to the Toronto Zoo to look at all of God’s creations! Lions and tigers and bears, oh my! (and much more.)

Day Camp 2011: Week 3 – Saddle Up Cowboys!

Posted by: knoxcamp on: August 18, 2011

In this here town of Tumbleweed Gorge, Knox Camps had to help Sheriff Cactusboot by protecting the all-precious DYE-ALMOND (sounds like diamond if you say it in a Western accent) but it wasn’t enough, for the Greasy Bandit had stolen it. Knox Camp was successful in retrieving the DYE-ALMOND but soon realized that the Greasy Bandit was doing the dirty deeds for someone unknown to the camp. Could it have been Grandma Chicken Katsu or Hank the Blacksmith? After setting a trap and luring in the culprit with the returned DYE-ALMOND, they soon figured out that it was actually Grandma Chicken Katsu that was behind the madness! However, Knox Camps forgave Grandma Chicken Katsu and the Greasy Bandit, and Tumbleweed Gorge was restored back to its original peaceful town, population of 4.

In Bible study, the campers were introduced to Ingrid the ghost narrator and her annoying cousin who always tried to one-up everyone (even if it seemed to be a complete lie). They narrated the story of David being chosen as King; Moses and the Israelites fleeing Egypt; Moses and the 10 Commandments; and the Prophesies fortelling Jesus. The memory verse of the week was Romans 6:23. Word.

We went on an adventure to go watch the Winnie the Pooh movie and returned to the church to play water games in the courtyard to cool off from the scorching heat.

What a great week!

Day Camp 2011 Week 2: Whodunnit?!

Posted by: knoxcamp on: August 18, 2011

Week 2 was a blast! The Best Camp Ever Trophy was awarded to Knox Camp Monday morning, but by the afternoon it was gone with the board game Clue left at the scene of the crime! Knox Campers had to figure out WHODUNNIT? by questioning and eliminating the suspects: Mme. Peacock, Mr. Green, Prof. Plum, Col. Mustard, Mrs. White and Miss Scarlett.  The campers questioned witnesses, found alibis, and played a variety of fun games!  To everyone’s great surprise, and with the help of Mrs. Chicken Katsu, Detective Sudoku was found as the actual culprit! Suspicious…suspicious…

In Bible Study, the animated character Crocster with the help of her neigbourhood friends Tim, Slink, Mrs. Chicken Katsu, Nugget and her trusty crocodile Max learned about the stories of Abraham, Jacob, and Joseph.  Every single camper learned the memory verse for the week as well which was Jeremiah 29:11.

Thursday’s trip was to see the movie Kung Fu Panda 2, which was a lot of fun! Then everyone cooled off with a super fun water fight back at the church!!
